Squeezers Playing Cards (2020 Printing)
Prior to the mid-1860s, playing cards had no suits or values in the corners. Players had to spread their cards widely or cycle them one at a time to see their hand. Around 1864, card manufacturers introduced suit and value indicators in the corners — a revolutionary innovation that allowed players to “squeeze” the cards into a fan to view their entire hand.
Decks with these new indicators were called Squeezers. The name has remained associated with the brand ever since, produced on and off by the U.S. Playing Card Company (USPCC) beginning in 1877. Although USPCC discontinued the brand in 2010, these decks continue to carry the legacy of that historic innovation.
