Matrix Playing Cards by Luke Wadey – Custom Playing Cards for Cardistry and Collectors
Matrix Playing Cards by Luke Wadey are custom playing cards inspired by historic graphic design studies, exploring a grid of circles and the fluid shapes they can form.
Made for card magic, cardistry and collecting, this physical deck ships separately from our California distribution center. The full publisher description follows so you know exactly what the item includes.
Drawing on historic studies of graphic design principles and experimentation, this collection looks at how circles placed on an even grid, a matrix of circles, relate to the fluid shapes they can create.
The deck
Graphic design as we know it would arguably look very different without the founders of the Swiss Design style, also called the "International Typographic Style". One of those founders is Armin Hofmann.
Inspired by one of his studies, this is the first deck in the newest collection from Luke, blending his love of typography with bold, original pattern design. It is fully customised with thirteen different face card graphics and a 1 way back design.
Luke designed this deck with collectors and cardists in mind and wanted it to stand apart from the norm, building on the typographic playing card roots of his Grid collection.
Matrix is made to intrigue both the user and the spectator, with striking displays during flourishes, spreads and packet work as the overlapping colors blend and contrast in motion. Even sitting still, the deck is a piece of graphic art, a truly unique addition to any collection and the start of an exciting journey of experimentation and evolution as the series grows.
