Chinese Sticks (VM)

These sticks are plastic. The Chinese Sticks is a classic magic prop that consists of two sticks connected by a string or cord. They are often used in magic performances, particularly in comedy magic routines. The Chinese Sticks routine typically involves the following steps:

1. Introduction: The magician presents the Chinese Sticks to the audience, holding one stick in each hand. The sticks are typically made of wood or plastic and are around 12 to 18 inches long.
2. Demonstrating Movement: The magician shows that pulling down on one stick causes the other stick to rise, and vice versa. This creates an amusing and puzzling effect because the sticks seem to be connected or influenced by an unseen force.
3. Comedy Interactions: Throughout the routine, the magician may engage in comedic interactions with the sticks, pretending that they have a mind of their own. The sticks might disobey the magician's commands or exhibit unexpected behavior, leading to humorous moments.
4. Patter and Storytelling: The magician incorporates patter or storytelling to enhance the entertainment value of the routine. The patter can revolve around the mysterious origin of the sticks, their magical properties, or a humorous narrative involving the interaction between the sticks and the magician.
5. Climax and Resolution: The routine typically builds up to a climactic moment where the magician finally succeeds in controlling the sticks. The sticks may be shown completely separate, demonstrating that there are no hidden connections or gimmicks.

The Chinese Sticks routine relies on the clever use of hidden mechanics and techniques. The string or cord connecting the sticks is carefully rigged to create the illusion of independent movement while allowing the magician to control the sticks' behavior. The Chinese Sticks routine is popular among magicians due to its comedic potential and visual appeal. It combines elements of comedy, illusion, and audience interaction, making it suitable for both stage and close-up performances. It's important to note that while the basic mechanics and routine of the Chinese Sticks remain consistent, individual magicians may have their own unique handling, patter, and variations to create a distinctive performance.
